‘In previous eras, it was more common for Christians to speak about what are called last things, namely heaven and hell, death and judgement. Our modern way is to seek to be non-judgmental, to allow the, often clear, wrong behaviour of many others to go without any public comment or judgement. In such a climate, even to speak of the existence of the next life and the possibility of hell is regarded as unacceptable. Practically all will share the view that certain persons are monsters and ‘deserve to rot in hell’, yet the exploration of what hell is about, or who it is for, is not for public discussion.’ (God Exists – So What?)
